This is Pippa! 🐶

✨ Meet the Kelpie – Australia’s ...Intelligent Working Dog! ✨🐾
Bred for herding livestock in the harsh Australian outback, Kelpies are known for their incredible stamina, sharp intelligence, and hardworking nature. These energetic dogs love having a job to do and thrive in active homes where they can stay both physically and mentally busy. 🐾⚡

🧠 Fun Fact: Kelpies can run over 50 kilometres in a single day while working on farms! Their endurance and agility make them one of the most impressive working dog breeds in the world. 🐑

Loyal, eager to learn, and full of personality, Kelpies excel in agility, obedience, herding, and outdoor adventures. While they’re famous as hardworking farm dogs, many also love relaxing at home with their families after a busy day. ❤️

Because they’re such smart dogs, Kelpies do best with plenty of exercise, training, and enrichment to keep their minds occupied. Without enough stimulation, they can become bored and mischievous!

Send us a photo of your Kelpie — whether they’re your best working buddy or your biggest couch potato! 👇📸

✨We welcome Zea! ✨

With over 15 years in the veterinary industry, Zea brings a wealth ...of knowledge, experience, and leadership to the Ovens & Kiewa Vets team 💚

Although Zea is one of the newer members of our team, she has fit in effortlessly, and it already feels like she’s been part of the Ovens & Kiewa Vets family for years. Her friendly nature, positive attitude, and willingness to support those around her have made her a valued member of our team from day one.

As our Practice Manager, Zea plays an important role in keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes. Working across both of our clinics — Ovens & Kiewa Vets in Myrtleford and our sister clinic, Dr Paws in Wangaratta — Zea helps support our teams, manage the day-to-day operations, and ensure both clinics continue to provide the highest standard of care for our patients and clients. 💚

While much of her role involves managing the administrative side of the clinics, Zea is always happy to lend a helping hand wherever she’s needed. Whether it’s supporting the nursing team, assisting with patients, or stepping in to help solve a problem, she’s always ready to jump in.

Zea has a fantastic eye for detail and is always looking for ways to support our teams and improve the experience for both our clients and their pets. Her calm, approachable nature and willingness to help make her an invaluable part of the Ovens & Kiewa Vets family. 🩺💚

🏡 Outside of the clinic, Zea enjoys exploring our beautiful region with her Staghound. At home, she’s surrounded by animals, including four cats and a flock of chickens, so it’s safe to say her love for animals doesn’t stop when she leaves work! 🐕🐈🐔

When she’s not caring for the clinics or her own furry and feathered friends, you’ll find Zea gardening, baking delicious treats, or getting creative with pottery. 🌿🍰🏺

We’re incredibly lucky to have Zea as part of our leadership team. Her dedication, organisation, and willingness to jump in wherever she’s needed help keep both of our clinics running smoothly every single day. 💚

🐱 Check out this cutie! 💛

We couldn't resist sharing this adorable little face!... It's always a highlight of our day meeting such gorgeous patients.

We hope this sweet kitty brightens your day as much as they brightened ours! 🐾✨

💊 Pharmacy Friday 👁️🐴

Is your horse squinting, tearing, or keeping one eye ...closed? Don't ignore it!

Eye problems in horses can go from minor to serious in a very short time. Because the eye is so delicate, every eye problem should be treated as an emergency until proven otherwise.

🚩 Signs to watch for:
👁️ Squinting or holding an eye closed
💧 Excessive tearing or discharge
🔴 Redness or swelling
☁️ A cloudy or blue-looking eye
🌞 Sensitivity to light
🤕 Rubbing the eye or face
👀 Sudden vision changes

Common causes include:
• Corneal ulcers
• Grass seeds or other foreign bodies
• Eye infections
• Trauma
• Equine Recurrent Uveitis (Moon Blindness)

💡 Pharmacy Friday Tip:
❌ Never use old or leftover eye medications without veterinary advice. Some eye drops, especially those containing steroids, can make certain eye conditions much worse and may even threaten your horse's vision.

✅ Keep your horse in a shaded area if they're uncomfortable in bright light and give us a call as soon as possible. Prompt treatment can make all the difference in protecting your horse's eyesight.

🐴 When it comes to horse eyes, it's always better to be safe than sorry! If you notice anything unusual, contact our team for advice—we're here to help. 💚

Medication Requests for Your Pets

A friendly reminder to all our clients about how ...prescription medications work for our small animal patients. When you come into the clinic requesting medication, please remember that there is a process in place to ensure every prescription is safe, appropriate, and in line with Australian Veterinary Association (AVA) guidelines. These guidelines represent the minimum standard of care and ensure medications are prescribed responsibly and within a valid veterinarian-client relationship.

⏱️
We kindly ask that you allow at least 24 hours’ notice for all medication requests. Our veterinarians have dedicated times throughout the day to review and authorise prescriptions, and they may not always be available to do this on the spot.

📦
It’s also important to plan ahead—some medications may not always be in stock, and we may need time to order them in for your pet. By giving us a little notice, you’re helping us make sure your pet receives the right medication, safely and without delay.Thank you for your understanding and for helping us provide the best care for your pets
