🐾 Medication Requests for Your Pets 🐾

A friendly reminder to all our clients about ...how prescription medications work for our small animal patients.

When you come into the clinic requesting medication, please remember that there is a process in place to ensure every prescription is safe, appropriate, and in line with Australian Veterinary Association (AVA) guidelines. These guidelines represent the minimum standard of care and ensure medications are prescribed responsibly and within a valid veterinarian-client relationship.

⏱️ We kindly ask that you allow at least 24 hours’ notice for all medication requests. Our veterinarians have dedicated times throughout the day to review and authorise prescriptions, and they may not always be available to do this on the spot.

📦 It’s also important to plan ahead—some medications may not always be in stock, and we may need time to order them in for your pet.

By giving us a little notice, you’re helping us make sure your pet receives the right medication, safely and without delay.

Thank you for your understanding and for helping us provide the best care for your pets 🐶🐱

Clinic Day Out ✨🍽
We splurged on a beautiful catered lunch for our belated Christmas ...party, joined by our wonderful team from the Wangaratta Dr Paws clinic. We carpooled down to Benalla and enjoyed an incredible feast at Pavlos, a Greek restaurant where every share plate was completely devoured—some even scrapped clean! A perfect day filled with great food, laughter, and even better company.

Meet Lucille! 🌟
You may have spotted her around the clinic over the last few weeks. She’s... a superstar nurse who has come up from Geelong to give us a helping hand. We’re so lucky to have her helping us during this time! 🐾#PharmacyFriday

🐾 Pharmacy Friday: Blood Pressure Monitoring (Doppler) 💉

Did you know pets can have ...high blood pressure too? Just like in humans, it can be serious if left untreated—but often has no obvious signs.

At our clinic, we use a Doppler blood pressure monitor to check your pet’s blood pressure. This is a gentle, non-invasive test where a small cuff is placed on your pet’s leg or tail, and a special probe helps us listen to blood flow.

🩺 Why is this important?

Helps detect conditions like kidney disease or heart issues

Monitors pets on certain medications

Important for senior pets and those with ongoing health concerns

🐶🐱 The procedure is quick, safe, and stress-free—most pets tolerate it really well (and get lots of pats along the way 💛).

If you have an older pet or one with underlying health conditions, chat to us about whether a blood pressure check is recommended!

This is Obi! 🐶
He was desexed a few weeks ago, but that didn’t stop him from waking up and... showing off his tricks with Dr Maddie. Such a clever boy! ✨

Easter Treat Dangers for Pets 🐾

🍫 Chocolate – Contains theobromine, which is toxic... to dogs and cats (dark chocolate is the most dangerous)

🍬 Xylitol (artificial sweetener) – Found in sugar-free lollies, gum, and some baked goods; can cause rapid drops in blood sugar and liver failure

🍇 Raisins & Sultanas – Common in hot cross buns; can lead to kidney failure even in small amounts

🍞 Hot cross buns & baked goods – Often contain chocolate, raisins, spices, and fats that can upset your pet’s stomach
